SAINT PAUL, Minn. – SPNN today announced Xavier Vazquez as its next executive director. Vazquez replaces Martin Ludden, who announced his intent to leave his role at the nonprofit community media and technology center earlier this year. Vazquez joins SPNN from Bolder Options, where he was director of program management.

“SPNN’s mission to empower people to use media and communications to make better lives, use their authentic voice, and build common understanding speaks directly to my passion and focus as a nonprofit leader,” said Vazquez. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with the community, SPNN members and staff to contribute to the growth and success of this wonderful organization.”

Vazquez moved to Minnesota from Puerto Rico in 2017 and quickly embedded himself in the nonprofit community. While working for Bolder Options, he was hired as a consultant with MENTOR Minnesota, worked on a philanthropic agenda for social capital with MENTOR National, and started Familia Free Planning Services, a nonprofit that supports community members with tax preparation and immigration processes. As director of program management at Bolder Options, he created four out of the organization’s five programs, raised more than half of the annual programming budget, and hired and onboarded staff. He is currently certified in disability mentoring, youth intervention, LGBTQ+ ally mentoring, and mental health first aid.

“Xavier’s experience with co-creating community, his passion for supporting people, and commitment to championing their growth makes him an incredible fit as SPNN’s next executive director,” said Wesley Farrow, SPNN board president. “As Martin passes the torch, we are confident in knowing that the organization will continue on with a collaborative and inclusive leader.”

Vazquez will begin his role as executive director of SPNN on June 5. Ludden’s last day will be June 7, and he will be available in a consulting capacity as needed to allow for a smooth transition. Community members are invited to attend SPNN’s Annual Celebration on May 22 to welcome Xavier, and to thank Martin for his service to the organization. More details on the event can be found here.
