Doc U Film Festival

August 9, 2018

Enjoy a film festival featuring local first-time documentary filmmakers! The final screening event of Doc U will be on August 18th. In this SPNN staff led program, participants learn how to create their own short documentary film from scratch, starting with story construction, learning camera and editing to completiing a short documentary.

Doc U gives people a chance to tell the stories that they have always felt are important and meaningful. This past May, 11 new media makers came to SPNN with a passion for storytelling and a desire to learn new skills. Now those 11 media makers have each completed a ten-minute documentary on the topic of their choice.

On August 18th, you'll not only have the chance to see their final pieces, but you will also be able to meet the media makers and ask questions during the Q&A after the screening. The topics of each documentary will vary greatly on account of the diverse backgrounds of the Doc U participants. It takes a lot of courage to learn a new skill and even more to share their deeply personal pieces with the wider community. You can support them on this journey by attending the screening.

So grab a friend, come to this event, eat some food, and support local voices in your community! The event will kick of with a mixer at 1:30PM followed by screening all 11 short (10 minutes) documentaries. After the screening we will have a short Q & A with the participants. Please join us as we celebrate the accomplishment of our eleven new media makers!
