The SPNN Youth Intern Program or YIP is an intensive paid program where St. Paul teens work together to make meaningful media about community issues.

This program provides young people, ages 14-19, with hands-on media production experience. Interns learn camera operation, interviewing, and digital editing through the production of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and documentaries.

Bus passes are provided during the program, and after successful completion, youth interns receive two high school elective credits and a cash stipend.  Contact Andrea Lehmann with questions at 651-361-8141 or lehmann@spnn.org.

Neighborhood Youth Video Camps (NVC) are free video camps and after school workshops to youth in neighborhoods throughout Saint Paul. Our programs are targeted towards youth who may not have access to video programs otherwise. We are currently seeking community organizations to partner with for 2007. For more information, please contact Mary Pumphrey at 651-298-8905 or pumphrey@spnn.org.

SOL TV Logo

SOL stands for SPNN Youth Open Lab and it allows youth with previous experience in media production to have access to shooting and editing equipment and to get help while working independently on projects that personally move them.  SOL happens every Friday from 3:30 – 5:30 P.M. in SPNN’s Media Lab.  All youth with an idea and some media experience are encouraged to come to SOL.  For more information, please contact Andrea Lehmann at 651-361-8141 or lehmann@spnn.org.

Connections Program

SPNN Youth and The Connections Program have partnered to offer a variety of video production classes to high school students, a career exploration program that is part of the Saint Paul Public Schools. Classes are low-cost - $1 - and students earn high school credit.  Connections classes at SPNN have included studio, documentary, narrative, and PSA production. For more information go to www.connections.spps.org or contact Erika Backberg at 651-298-8919 or backberg@spnn.org.

Residencies occur each year when SPNN Youth collaborates with non-profit community organizations and schools to conduct youth video residencies. These workshops are often off-site at schools or community centers. Classes can be designed to fit the organization's needs.  For more information, please contact Nicola Pine at 651-298-8903 or pine@spnn.org.
