Media Monday Peer Mentor Application




MEDIA MONDAY

Starting this fall SPNN will be the place to be on Mondays after school from 3-5 pm. Youth can come to Media Monday to work on independent projects at SPNN Youth Open Lab (SOL), learn new video skills at workshops, watch youth-produced and other films at screenings, and attend Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) meetings.

Peer Mentor Job Description:

The Youth Programs Peer Mentor will work cooperatively with and under the direction of Youth Programs staff to help run youth programs. The Peer Mentor should have an interest in mentoring and assisting youth, an aptitude in media and technology, and a willingness to help with basic tasks. Peer Mentors will be expected to attend all Media Monday events and be present 30 minutes before and after the start of programming to assist with set up and take down.

Peer Mentor Job Duties:

Youth Leadership and Mentoring
·Assist youth crew members individually or in small groups, helping them to improve skills and reinforcing concepts presented during trainings.
·Give constructive feedback to youth participants.
·Set a good example in terms of punctuality, attendance, and participation.
·Meet with staff to discuss program progress and plans.

Media and Technology
·Possess and or develop necessary media skills in order to assist staff in implementing programs.
·Help maintain equipment used in programs.

Program and/or Office Support
· Prepare materials, displays, classroom area, snacks and equipment as directed.
· Support staff in photocopying, distributing handouts, keeping records, and other administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications:

·Previous experience with and a strong interest in media production.
·The ability to communicate and work well with program participants and staff.
·The ability to learn about and use media software and equipment.
·Previous leadership and/or mentoring experience.

·Applicants must be between ages 14-21.

Compensation: $10.00/hr
