Neighborhood Video Project: On Location

Hennok and Deangela filming St. Paul from the High Bridge.

This past week at the Neighborhood Video Project, we've headed out on location with our video cameras almost every class. We've filmed the Mississippi River, the West 7th neighborhood, Irvine Park, the High Bridge, and the Schmidt Brewery. We've interviewed neighborhood historian Gary Brueggerman, and talked to the amazing staff at the Mississippi National River & Recreation Area. The more footage we can film in the next few weeks, the more material we'll have to work with when we start editing.

Last week we braved traffic and made the climb over the High Bridge, which connects West 7th with the West Side of Saint Paul. From the highest point of the bridge, we filmed an amazing view of Saint Paul and the Mississippi River. Lately with the melting snow, the water level in the Mississippi has been rising, and we saw some trees that were half underwater.

This weekend, we have more interviews lined up with West 7th community members, historians, and business owners. In the next few weeks, we'll be editing our footage into two documentaries, one about immigration in West 7th, and one about the Mississippi River. Stay tuned!
