WHAT: The Canvas Teen Leadership Council has open positions! This group meets twice per month to plan various Canvas activities—what kinds of workshops should we offer? What should the space look like? What events or concerts should we organize?
WHY: Aside from just being a good time, getting involved with the Canvas will look great on a college application or résumé; it’s also a concrete way to get involved in the community and learn the nuts and bolts of organizing, promoting and building events and workshops. If you love art, community or just meeting new people, this is a great opportunity. There’s also food at meetings and a small stipend!
HOW: We will be meeting every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, starting September 27. Meetings are 5:30-7pm at the Canvas. Bus tokens are available. You will receive a $15 stipend for each meeting. Additional responsibilities may include being at certain workshops or events, promoting things in your school and more. To be considered, please email canvas651@gmail.com and we will send you an official application. You can also download the application here.
Applications are due Friday, August 27 by 4 pm. Please include a resume and a cover letter.
WHAT: Roger Cummings of Juxtaposition Arts will lead a nine-day workshop around creating designs, screen-printing t-shirts, airbrushing shoes and much more. If you’re interested in visual art, fashion or urban art in any capacity, this is the place to be. You’ll also get a free shirt at the end of the workshop.
WHEN: September 20-24 and 27-30. 6-8pm each day.
HOW: Space is limited! If you are interested and can commit to the nine days, email canvas651@gmail.com to register.

We all believe in free speech, but does that mean anything goes? What about the speech that offends us, makes us cringe, and provokes our anger (and desire to censor)? Is there anything that should be outlawed in art, films, books, music, video games, TV, or online? Is free speech an all or nothing proposition or something in between? Surprise us - and maybe yourself - and express yourself about what kind of speech, if any, you think should be censored, and why. Be creative, compelling and provocative.
Film your response in 4 minutes or less. Entries can be videos of any kind, including documentary, animation, experimental, satire, fictional narrative, or music video. Applications must be submitted (and films uploaded to YouTube) no later than Sunday, October 31, 2010. All films must be produced in 2010 and address the contest theme.
