Our Mission

SPNN Youth Programs provides Saint Paul youth with the opportunity to create community media with a lasting impact. Through our fun and engaged programs, youth develop skills in media production, critical thinking, and community awareness. We are a place for exploration and diverse voices, for artistic vision and award-winning quality. As an alternative to mainstream media, we work to increase youth media visibility on our channels and on the web. We believe in the power of youth media to stimulate dialogue and create social change.

Farewell to Andrea

Since 2005, Andrea Lehmann has been a dedicated member of the SPNN Youth Department, leading both the Set It Up program, and the summer Youth Intern Program.

This May we said goodbye to Andrea as she embarked on the adventure of taking care of her new daughter, Eva.  We thank her for her dedication to SPNN, to the youth we work with, and to helping youth produce creative and socially engaged media.   We will miss her dearly and wish her the best of luck.

SOL Season Ends

The end of the school year marks the end of the SOL season.  Congratulations to the youth who finished their films in Spnn Open Lab, and we look forward to seeing many more independent youth projects come out of SOL when it starts up again in September!

If you are interested in producing your own youth media this fall and want more information, please contact Rachel at delange@spnn.org.

2010 Youth Producer of the Year

Erin with SPNN Youth Programs staff (L-R) Mary Pumphrey, Kevin Kalla, and Nicola Pine

Erin Prizant, a passionate and dedicated media-maker at SPNN, was named the youth producer of the year at the SPNN Annual Meeting in May.  Erin has been involved with SPNN since 2006, first through Set It Up, and most recently as an intern and then contract editor in the Community Productions Department.  A high school senior, Erin plans to pursue a career in editing.  We congratulate her on her achievement, and wish her the best in her future endeavors.

Neighborhood Video Project: Wrapping up in West 7th

Neighborhood Video Project has finished work on some amazing videos in Saint Paul's West 7th neighborhood. We completed three documentaries on CSPS Hall, West 7th Immigration, and the Mississippi River. Youth also finished creating video diaries about their lives, homes, families, and pets. So, to celebrate, we all boarded a steamboat and took a ride down the Mississippi River for our final class. As you can see from the photo on the left, it was a lot of fun.
