Funding your Work Workshop- Satuday, July 24 at 10AM
SPNN is excited to announce that Springboard for the Arts will be presenting a great workshop called Funding Your Work right here in our studio. Springboard for the Arts' mission is to cultivate a vibrant arts community by connecting artists with the skills, contacts, information and services they need to make a living and a life. This workshop will provide you with over 2 hours of ideas on how to fund your work and the value of multiple income streams. Instructor Noah Keesecker will cover research and application preparation techniques for grants, fellowships, scholarships, and residency programs available to individual artists. Plus he will talk about finding and maintaining partners in the community as a strategy for expanding your audience and appealing to potential funders. Have you been interested in making a documentary or even a short documentary but don't know where to begin? How much will this cost to produce? Can you do it by yourself or do you need a team? And do you really have time to take this on? Get all these questions answered and more. SPNN invites you to get some practical advice on what you need to consider in order to ensure your project's success. Guest Instructor Joanna Kohler has been directing social documentaries since 1998. Joanna is a Minneapolis native with a passion for bringing community stories to new and wider audiences. This is a great workshop for beginning filmmakers.

Producing a Religious Program
September 11 @ 10AM Have you thought about taping your church services? Do you have a spiritual message that you'd like to share on television? If you have been thinking about producing a religious TV show and are not sure how to go about doing it, then consider taking this workshop.
Bonnie Schumacher will cover the basics, from SPNN membership rules, tips for building your production team, to what style of programming works best for you. Bonnie will offer suggestions for distributing your show to other access centers, as well as posting shows on the Internet.
The tips offered may also be helpful for folks already producing a series but are looking for new ideas of how to strengthen or enhance what they are already doing. This class has a suggested donation of $10 per person.

NALIP, CPB, the NEA, MPR and the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival In association with Native American Public Telecommunications, Native American Journalists Association, In Progress, St. Paul Neighborhood Network, IFP Minnesota, Intermedia Arts, UST, Latino Public Broadcasting, NBPC, ITVS, CAAM, PIC and Twin Cities Public Television present Doing Your Doc: Diverse Visions, Regional Voices a 3 day seminar in St. Paul that will help make your documentary happen. Don't miss this unique chance to work with story consultant Fernanda Rossi, the Documentary Doctor, author of the book "Trailer Mechanics," plus receive project mentoring on your proposal, trailer or documentary idea. This intensive 3-day workshop is right for you, whether you are just beginning, have already shot footage on a documentary project, or are seeking finishing funds. "Doing your Doc" is designed especially for media makers in the diverse communities of Minnesota, preparing you to receive production funding and apply to national professional programs while developing your unique stories and views.
